The religion of Islam is fundamentally based upon two prime sources: The Quran and Prophetic Tradition. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is seen as the ideal role model to emulate within the Muslim faith, it is therefore, incumbent upon every Muslim that they learn about this ideal role model, his traditions and apply his practices and values.
In this class, the famous commentary on the 40 Hadith collections titled: “Al Ar’baeen an-Nawawiya” is taught. The great Hadith scholar, Imam Nawawi has collected 40 Hadith (Prophetic Traditions) on all the important aspects of Islam. He mentions that he has only included authentic narrations in his work along with explanations to the difficult words and concepts in the traditions. Students will have an opportunity to go through the classical Arabic text of the classical book and then receive an in depth commentary of each tradition.
Aim of this book:
To familiarise students with the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as they journey through the book. Practices and advice on compassion, kindness, mercy and forgiveness will all be explored. Students will therefore have sound knowledge about each tradition and a wealth of morals and values that they can adopt in their lives and become exemplary members of society. They will also have opportunities to critically evaluate certain traditions of the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and question why and how events unfolded throughout the Prophet’s life.
