Kirkcaldy Central Mosque Green Project

Kirkcaldy Central Mosque are delighted to inform the local community that they have been given a community grant of £83,000 to teach its ethnic minority groups about the dangers of climate change and how we as a community can work together to protect the environment.

Our grant requires us to run a project which includes three main things:

1. Establish a community garden to teach people how to grow their own food.
2. Train two people to do house visits and advise people on how to save on their energy bills.
3. Conduct workshops on carbon literacy, recycling and living an eco-friendly life.

Community Garden

We have allocated an area for our community garden on the mosque site. This is located behind the new building. We have employed a gardener who has qualifications in planting and growing food. We are currently landscaping the allocated area so that the gardener can then begin his work.
We are required to train twelve people from the local community to be able to plant and grow their own vegetables. They will be taught about the benefits of this along with cookery lessons to teach people how to best enjoy the produce they grow.
If you would like to participate in this, please send your name and details to: Kirkcaldycentralmosque@outlook.com and we will update you on when this will be beginning.

House visits to give energy advice

We have two people who are currently away on training on home energy advice. They are required to visit 120 homes over the period of a year. They will give valuable advice on how to be more energy efficient at home resulting in huge savings on energy bills. If you would like for our trained energy advisors to visit your home, please send your name and contact details to the email address above and they will inform you about an appointment to visit your home.

Workshops on Climate Change and other useful environmental subjects

Our workshop will be on various topics regarding the environment. Details of these will be put on our website and Facebook page. We will also be sending emails about this so please do leave your email address with us. You can send us a private message on our Facebook page (Kirkcaldy Central Mosque) or send us an email with these details.

To ensure that this project is delivered to the best of our ability, we require good cooperation and participation from the local community. This grant has been given so that we may be better educated about our environment and hence, be able to leave a better world for coming generations.
